Listen y'all, no matter how popular or silly this Harlem Shake internet meme gets, some of us will never forget what the original dance was all about and the legendary NY neighborhood that birthed it.
Originating in the early 1980's in Harlem, New York, the original Harlem Shake dance was invented by a neighborhood resident that went by 'Al B' and was based on an East African dance called the Eskista. The dance grew in popularity from its humble beginnings and soon spread to other urban areas, getting a big mainstream push in 2001 by G-Dep in his track of the same name.
The good folks over at BOOTLEG commemorate the original roots and good vibes of the original dance with this amazing hand drawn tribute to the legendary neighborhood, with the extremities of the lettering extending into two hands shaking right below.
Now that's a Harlem Shake we can get down with. Just in time for summer, we are offering this slick red print on a premium white Tank-Top.
